Our erection crews set columns plumb, torque the anchor bolts to specification and hang the trusses on a hoist beam that the yard built itself. Every frame is chocked and every bay is measured diagonally twice before the purlins go on, because square steel is the only steel that sheets cleanly.

Sheeting, insulation and trim follow the same layout, so the wall lines stay true from the first girt to the last closure strip. We document bolt torque and plumb readings in the job file and hand the record to the owner at close-out.

Barndominium Shells

SHELL ONLY R-21 WRAP LOFT DECK

A barndominium shell from GDW Build gives a family a weather-tight envelope with the interior left open for a future fit-out. We frame the steel, pour the slab with the plumbing chases marked, and close the roof and walls so the building can dry in while the owner decides on rooms.

The shell carries a rated insulation wrap, framed door and window openings, and a loft deck ready for living space above the shop. This is the most requested package in the yard, and it pairs naturally with our agricultural outbuildings for stock and equipment.

BAY 4 Concrete

Concrete Foundations and Slabs

Concrete is where a steel building is won or lost. We excavate to frost depth, set the anchor bolt templates off the column lines, and pour thickened-edge slabs with control joints laid out to the bay grid so cracking stays predictable and cosmetic.

Aprons, approach pads and equipment plinths are placed in the same sequence, which means trucks and forklifts have a surface to work from on erection day. Curing is scheduled against the weather, and the winter crew uses heated blankets when the pour must go ahead in the cold.

Hay barns, machine sheds, livestock shelters and open-front commodity buildings are the backbone of rural work, and GDW Construction LLC builds them with the same care as a shop. We size the eave height around the equipment the owner actually runs, not around a catalogue number.

Ventilation, kick rails, concrete aprons and gate openings are detailed for daily use by animals and people. These structures also pair well with our additions and retrofits when an older barn needs a new lean-to or a stronger end wall.

Additions and Retrofits

TIE-IN LEAN-TO RE-SKIN

Older buildings rarely get the ending they deserve. We add steel lean-tos, mezzanine decks and full side-wall extensions, and we retrofit existing frames with new bracing, fresh sheeting and modern insulation so a sound structure can serve another generation.

Every tie-in is surveyed before it is welded, because cutting into a standing building demands that the load path be understood first. The result is an addition that reads as original work rather than an afterthought nailed onto the side.

01 — Walk

We walk the ground, note drainage and access, and chalk the building footprint on the dirt so the owner can stand inside the future bay before any money moves.

02 — Draw

Drawing and Permit

The layout becomes column lines, purlin spacing and door schedules, then goes out for engineering and permitting as one coordinated set.

03 — Pour

Concrete and Staging

Foundations are poured to frost depth while the steel package is chocked and staged in the yard, tagged by bay and ready for the truck.

04 — Raise

Erection and Close-Out

The frame goes up on the hoist beam, plumb readings are logged, sheeting and trim follow, and the file closes with torque records and a punch walk.

Depth follows the local frost requirement and the engineered anchor plan, and thickened-edge slabs are jointed to the bay grid. The pour date and curing plan are set against the weather, with heated blankets for cold snaps.
